Why and how often to clean
Cleaning and maintaining your tankless water heater on a regular basis will prevent costly repairs in the future. Cleaning removes mineral deposits and other buildup that accumulates over time and can slow the flow of water through the unit. Regular cleaning increases the lifespan and improves efficiency of your tankless water heater.
It is optimal to clean your tankless water heater every 6 months, but should be done at least once a year. If you have hard water, or notice a decrease in water flow or temperature, you may need to clean before 1 year.
Problems that cleaning will help to avoid
You may experience low water pressure which can lead to shutoff.
This could be from clogged filters or sediment buildup clogging the heat exchanger.
Insufficient hot water.
Your tank has sensors to detect overheating or excess exhaust and will shut down to prevent damage leading to sudden loss of hot water. This is usually caused by a mineral buildup on the heating element.
Inconsistent hot water temperatures.
Due to mineral buildup on heating elements and clogged filters.
Unusual smells and noises, such as, whistling or gurgling.
This could be due to blockages, or smells from buildup of sediment or clogged air filters.
